Ukulele-punk band, Bears In Trees are releasing a brand new song, and you've got to hear it.
Bears In Trees have been building a following with their unique, down-to-earth vibes and their personal, raw lyrics. Now they're following up their second record, Bits N' Pieces, with a single called 'Sitting Pretty'.
'Sitting Pretty' is a high energy song with near frantic strumming patterns playing catching melodies. There's a wonderful sense of space that makes it feel as though you're sat in the room with the band at practice, giving a really human, personal vibe. There's something charming about the production - it feels so stripped back and raw and this only adds to making you feel like you're there and connecting with others just by listening to the track.
The message of the song is comforting and uplifting: "It'll be okay, Sit Pretty." There are deeply personal lyrics that feel quirky and give insight into the personality and lives of the band members. References to say to day life, watching Bojack Horseman, getting coffee, kicking cans, and singing in the mirror. You feel like you're getting to know these guys as you listen to the song and soon the reassurances they sing sound like they're coming from friends and you're part of the "we" that they sing about.
When I listen to this song, I can picture myself dancing along to it at music festivals. It's a perfect song to get you ready for spring, to power through the cold until the weather is kinder and everything somehow feels good. Maybe my own 'Sitting Pretty' story is trying to get through the days that feel cold, harsh, and hopeless until the world feels alive again.
Everyone has times where things feel a little hopeless, or dreams that feel a little too far away. This is the song to get you through it. This is the song that says "hold on, it's going to be okay" - acknowledging the darkness without making it a lingering presence .
When 'Sitting Pretty' is released tomorrow (February 7th) you should listen to it. Soak it in. Enjoy it. You won't regret it.
